Author: Lucy Foley

So, Lucy Foley has been everywhere after the success of The Hunting Party (which I must confess I haven’t read yet!) so it wasn’t a surprise that The Guest List was getting a lot of hype around it. I decided to try it after I saw it on a special price on my weekly food shopping trip.

Set in a far island that has its mysterious secrets, Julia Keegan and Will Slater decided to have their romantic and magic wedding. A celebrity wedding between an owner of a lifestyle magazine and a TV star, it is meant to be the wedding of the year. However, as their guests start to arrive, things begin to fall apart. Jealousy, insecurities, and mistakes from the past came quickly to ruin their special day.

Foley made this story a very easy read and she is great as describing all the scenes and connections between the characters. Their relationships are full of lies, resentment, and as the story progresses it is full of big revelations.

The first two-thirds of the book are slow burners, I mean really really slow. The story is narrated between five characters’ perspectives and the author takes its time to develop each personality in a way that works really well for the story.

For me, the best part of the book was the last couple of chapters. Being such a slow read I thought I had it all figured it out, I had a conclusion in my mind, but the ending was actually really surprising. I literally had my mouth wide open while I was finishing it! The whole built up of the plot was worth it for the ending.

The clever ending took this book to a whole other level for me, I believe is worth reading.
