Author: Oyinkan Braithwaite
This is another one that I saw all over Instagram, getting really good reviews so I decided to give it a try. It is a short book, with light chapters which made it a very easy read.
The novel is about two sisters, Korede and Ayoola. The bigger sister, Korede seems to be living under her little sister’s shadow who is described as beautiful and always attracting men, which makes her being a serial killer a bit easier. Ayoola, seems to be unbothered by her actions which have a bigger impact on her sister.
The story is narrated from Korede’s perspective. She is a nurse that works in Nigeria in a local hospital. She enjoys her job (in her own way) and she seemed to be very fond of one of the doctors that works with her, Tade. She starts to resent her sister when she visits her at her place of work and meets Tade, putting their dark secret and their sisterhood to the test.
The author also explores their relationship and their childhood drama which aligns perfectly within the narration, it helps to understand their behaviour and justifies their thinking.
I personally enjoyed this read, it is not one that I will usually go to, but it was a nice, light read. The chapters are short and the book flows in a very unique way which was a very good thing for me. The story is not very deep and some aspects are unexplored but it works in a way.
If you are in the mood for a nice read with some dark humor, you will enjoy this one!
